TOP helps students with school preparedness. To be ready for school, children need motor skill development, reading basics and language skills. In addition, they must be able to communicate effectively with others, be capable of understanding classroom behaviors and believe they have the ability to achieve.

The TOP curriculum encourages children to develop a hunger for learning. On average, in the low-income neighborhoods TOP schools serve, only 30 to 50% of children perform at grade level. TOP entry tests confirm this low-level performance. Without the advantages and opportunities presented at TOP schools, the children begin school behind and, in most cases, are never able to catch up.
