Of all learning, that which is most related to success is literacy and the ability to read well. It’s difficult to grasp concepts in other school subjects without a good command of language and reading, and so TOP educators spend group and individual time teaching students reading skills. TOP utilizes the Success for All/Curiosity Corner literacy program which is designed to help children learn interesting aspects about the world around them while also learning to read. The children’s natural curiosity keeps them engaged in the learning process while also introducing early reading concepts and improving proficiency. Exit testing of graduating students indicates that the learning centers are highly successful assisting children in the area of early literacy.

TOP Learning Centers also maintain a multi-sensory library, influenced by the Cotsen Children’s Library at Princeton University, where children engage in literacy activities, watch puppet shows and have access to books for home and school. The library is comprised of enchanting reading spaces within a whimsical forest providing the opportunity to enhance language and literacy skills. Research shows that children’s brains develop best when given the opportunity to imagine and explore, with 80 percent of that development occurring before the age of six. |
