DONORS

The Opportunity Project (TOP) expends its funds in three ways: (1) capital funding for new buildings, furniture, fixtures and equipment, (2) operating funding to support day-to-day operating salaries and expenses, and (3) program funding to support particular learning or project initiatives to help the children learn and succeed. TOP is an IRS qualified 501(c)3 charitable trust which enables all types of donations to TOP to be treated as tax deductible giving. TOP accepts money, personal or business services, in-kind items, and all other forms of charitable currency to support TOP kids and their families.

During the past four years, TOP has raised over $11,000,000 in capital funding to build and equip two state-of-the-art learning centers enrolling 400 children annually. Capital funding has come primarily from large foundations, family foundations, and generous individual donors. Operating funding is provided primarily from public funding agencies such as Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, Child Care Association (Head Start), Kansas Board of Education (at-risk component) and others. With support from TOP’s modest endowment, annual operations generally do not require ongoing fund raising. Thus, after payment of capital expenditures, TOP’s ongoing operations are self-funding.
